- Virginia Nicoll is a Pittsburgh native, whose love for the arts extends into several classical interconnected genres of arts. She began sewing and designing her own clothes when she was very young. She made and wore outrageous outfits and taught herself how to make different patterns by disassembling clothing she liked and modifying the pattern to suit her desires. She attended sewing school for 2 years.
- At eighteen, Virginia was sent to the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater to work as a Dresser for the ballet Swan Lake. This event changed the trajectory of her life, sparking her passion for ballet and costuming at a higher level. It was at this time she began designing her own ballet costumes and pursued more intensive classical ballet training for herself.
- From 1992-2014, Virginia was the Founding Artistic Director of Southwest Ballet School of Performing Arts and Southwest Ballet Company. She developed a high-level classical ballet program that offered:
- Annual Academic Program
- Afterschool Program
- Summer Intensive Program
- High School Release Program
The High School Release Program established a 100% success rate in scholarship placements for many of her students, into University Dance Departments, plus Classical and Modern Dance Company contracts. Many of these dancers currently have successful careers in the Performing Arts.
Virginia designed and chose all costuming and creative content for her ballet school & company shows. She produced both sides of all productions, from costumes, set & lighting designs to all media, ticket -sales, and Artist and Venue contracting.
In 2014, Virginia closed the Ballet Company. She continued working as a guest Ballet Instructor, Zumba Instructor, Stage Manager, and Costumer for other Pittsburgh studios. She also created a Ballet program for the Spencer Family YMCA.
Her passion for high-end fashion led her to a sales position for David’s Bridal, where she became the top sales associate. Later, she decided to reenter the demanding world of professional Wardrobe and Costuming in Film and Theater. She is a standing member of IATSE Local 787 Wardrobe Union.
From her diversified experience in the industry, Virginia gained a deep understanding of how professional theater works in Dance, Drama, and Opera. In 2015, she was asked to be a Designer for The 2016 Ecolution Fashion Show Gala, which led her to designing for the Gala in 2017, 2023, and 2024. She has accepted the position for 2025 and is also the Talent Provider for Pittsburgh Fashion Week.
Virginia Nicoll established The Goddess Closet in September of 2023. She has produced (10) Livestream Fashion Shows on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook Live, and its’ storefront boutique opened in September 2024.
